Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has gazetted the appointment of Dr Kenneth Langat as the substantive CEO of the Special Economic Zones Authority (SEZA) after the latter has served in an acting position.

In a notice on Wednesday, Mr Kuria announced that Dr Langat’s three-year term is effective April 21.

“It is notified for the general information of the public that the Board of Directors of the Special Economic Zones Authority has appointed Kenneth Chelule Langat as the Chief Executive Officer of the Authority, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 21st April 2023,” the gazette reads in part.

He previously served as the Authority’s director of partnership, strategy, research and resource mobilisation.

Before joining SEZA, Dr Langat was the chief research scientist and deputy director at the Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute (KIRDI). He has also worked for UK-based pharmaceutical firm Johnson & Johnson and the University of Leeds in the UK.

He holds a Doctorate and a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Staffordshire University in the UK and an Executive Master’s in Business Administration degree from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).

“Dr Chelule is an experienced professional with more than 20 years of expertise in industrial research, technology transfer and MSME support,” reads a biodata published on the SEZA website.

SEZA is mandated to attract, facilitate and retain domestic and foreign direct investments in Special Economic Zones.

The authority exists to create an enabling environment for investors to do business.
